Paul Ehlert

President, CEO

Paul Ehlert joined Germania in July 2004 as executive vice president. In January 2005, he was appointed first vice president. In July 2011, he was appointed president.

He is a native of Brenham and a graduate of Brenham High School. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1975, and graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1978. Paul practiced law in Brenham from 1978 through June of 2004. He served as Germania’s corporate counsel since 1998.

Ehlert has served on the board of numerous organizations. Currently, he chairs the Texas Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ Legislative Committee, is past chair of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ Federal Affairs Committee and serves as Vice President of the Association of Fire and Casualty Companies in Texas Board (AFACT). Ehlert also serves as vice-chairman on the board of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Paul and his wife Rhonda have two children, Kris and Amy. Kris lives in Austin with his wife Leisha. Amy is married to Dr. Mark Trevino and they reside in San Antonio. In addition, Paul and Rhonda are the proud grandparents of Elle, Eli, Will and Knox.

Blake Lovelace

First Vice President

Blake Lovelace joined Germania on July 7, 2007 as Director of Technology and Corporate Services. He became assistant vice president of Information Services in 2008. On July 20, 2011, he was appointed second vice president, and on February 1, 2017 he was promoted to first vice president, providing oversight of the Claims and Information Technology departments. He is also vice president of Texas Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Blake received his BBA from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1986 and his MBA from Texas A&M – Commerce in 2000. He received his project management professional accreditation in 2005. Blake began his professional career working in the mortgage servicing industry with Transamerica where he moved from progressive management operations and technology positions to Division Manager. After leaving Transamerica in 2000, Blake worked briefly in the telecommunications industry for Xybridge. Prior to joining Germania, he led technical project teams for Citigroup–Citicards.

He and his wife, Christy, reside in Montgomery and have three children, Taylor, Matthew and Valerie.

Derrell Krebs

Derrell Krebs began his career with Germania on July 17, 1989, as an accountant I. In 1990, he was promoted to an accountant II and then in 1992 to controller. Derrell was appointed assistant secretary-treasurer in 1997, and in 2000 he was appointed secretary–treasurer of the Germania Insurance Companies.

Derrell is a native of the Brenham area. He is an honor graduate of Texas A&M University, class of ’80, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting. In 1982, he received his certified public accountant (CPA) designation.

He is involved in a number of industry organizations such as the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and the Texas Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. In addition, he is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Derrell and his wife Janie are members of Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham. Derrell has served on the church council and as president of Christ Lutheran Foundation and chairman of the day school board.

Rodney Foerster

Rodney Foerster

Second Vice President

Rodney Foerster joined Germania in 1981. His skills and knowledge encompass a wide array of positions held at Germania which include: property claims adjuster, claims area supervisor, assistant director of Marketing & Training, and director of Marketing & Training. He served as assistant vice president of Marketing & Training for sixteen years and in February 2017 he was appointed second vice president. Rodney currently oversees the Marketing & Training, Product Management, and Germania Life.

Rodney graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and holds the Certified Insurance Counselor and Professional Farm Mutual Manager designations.

Rodney and his wife Cindy are residents of Brenham.

Germania District Directors

The directors of Germania Farm Mutual are elected by the membership for a term of three years. Below is some brief biographical information about the current members of the Board of Directors.

John D. Caley

Sugar Land

District 22

John grew up in Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona with a BSBA in Accounting. Following graduation, John began his career with 11 years of Big 4 audit and financial consulting experience, primarily serving Houston clients in the manufacturing, distribution, transportation, E&P, and oilfield services industries.

Subsequent to those public accounting years, John accumulated another 20 plus years of executive level audit and compliance risk management experience at five publicly traded companies and one private company, serving boards, audit committees, risk committees, and executive management.

He has an active CPA license in Texas and is a member of the AICPA, the TSCPA, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. John has served on the Board of Trustees, and Finance Committee, of the Houston Symphony (2013-2015), and recently joined the Membership Advisory Committee of Black Hawk Country Club in Richmond Texas. John and his wife, Candace, are members of Sugar Land Baptist Church.

John is a member of Local Chapter 36, and was appointed to the Germania Farm Mutual Board of Directors in 2015; also serving on the Audit Committee.

Dathan C. Voelter

Austin

District 21

Dathan Voelter is the Chief Compliance Counsel at Itron, Inc.  Previously, he served as Vice President, and Assistant Secretary of Freescale Semiconductor after practicing corporate and securities law at the firm of Vinson & Elkins in Austin, Texas.  He is a Certified Public Accountant and started his professional career with Coopers & Lybrand as an auditor.

Dathan received his Juris Doctor from Baylor Law School, a BBA in International Business from the University of Texas at Austin and is a graduate of Blinn College.  He also studied European Integration and International Economics at Maximillians Bayerische Universitaet Wuerzburg in Germany as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.

Dathan enjoys volunteering for organizations that serve the Austin community and Texas.  He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Texas Business Hall of Fame.  He has also served as Chairman and President of the Texas Lyceum, on the Board of the American Lung Association Central Texas Chapter and was an officer on the Board of the Freescale Foundation which he helped start in 2013 to invest in STEM education opportunities for children.

He is a member of Local Chapter 412, and was appointed to the Germania Farm Mutual Board of Directors in 2015; also serving on several committees.

Donald W. Spiess

Brenham

District 9

Following graduation from high school, Donald Spiess continued his education at Blinn College and at Sam Houston State University. After four decades in the insurance industry, Donald sold his agency, but continues to remain active in Spiess Insurance Agency/Local Chapter 14 as an agent.

Donald Spiess has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1983, and is active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010 he was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

He currently serves as a director for Brenham National Bank. Donald and his wife, Gwen, are members of First United Methodist Church in Brenham, where he has served on various church committees. Past community involvements include the Washington County Heart Association, chairman of the local drive for March of Dimes, and director of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

Michael L. Bayless

Lumberton

District 19

A graduate of Silsbee High School, Michael Bayless continued his education at Lamar University in Beaumont. He began his insurance career in Beaumont in 1981. He became a producer for Bayless Insurance/Local Chapter 386 in 1983. During his insurance career he has worked as a marketing manager with a Life Insurance Company and marketing director for a Brokerage General Agency. In 2002, he became the agent for Local Chapter 386 and owner of Bayless Insurance.

Being active in his community, Mr. Bayless has served as a trustee for the Lumberton Independent School District and Vice President of the LISD Education Foundation.

Michael was elected to the Germania Farm Mutual Board of Directors in April of 2013 and is active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2015 he was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

Philip R. “Phil” Roeber

Gonzales

District 18

Upon graduating from Gonzales High School, Phil attended Texas State Technical Institute and received an Associate degree in Applied Science in Electrical Power Technology. He began his insurance career in 1984 with Local Chapter 60 and is owner/agent of Roeber Insurance Agency in Gonzales and LaVernia. Phil is a master electrician, owner of Roeber Electric Company, and owner of Roeber Cattle, an F1 cattle operation.

Active in his community by serving as a director for Gonzales Royalties, Inc., Phil is also active in supporting the youth of Texas by serving as a director and lifetime member of the San Antonio Stock Show. He is a member of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raiser’s Association, LaVernia Chamber of Commerce and the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce.

Phil has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1997 and has actively served on its subsidiary boards and board committees. In 2009, he was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

Russell C. Janecka

Victoria

District 17

Upon graduating from Victoria High School, Russell Janecka became a Russian linguist through the Defense Language Institute and served in the US Air Force Security Service in Berlin, Germany, earning the USAF Commendation Medal. Both during and after his service, he received a business education from Victoria College and the University of Maryland.

Mr. Janecka purchased the family’s independent insurance agency in 1986. He has earned the insurance industry’s LUTCF and CIC designations. As an active leader in his community, Russell has chaired the boards of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, Victoria County United Way, Junior Achievement of Victoria and the Victoria Ballet Theatre. Mr. Janecka has led classes as a Junior Achievement mentor and provides education to young adults on insurance. He also served ten years on the Victoria City Planning Commission.

Mr. Janecka has served on the board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1987 and has been active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010 he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Dwayne W. Herring

Amarillo

District 16

Dwayne Herring is managing officer of Herring Agency of Amarillo; and was owner of Dwayne Herring Agency from 1977-2005. Prior to his insurance career, he was a realtor, worked in retail sales and other management positions. Mr. Herring is a graduate of Munday High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also active in the Knox County 4H where he was a Gold Star recipient for his work with livestock and crops.

During Mr. Herring’s professional career, he has served on church councils, as a United Way director and as an alderman for the Village of Timbercreek in Canyon.

Mr. Herring has served on the board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1984 and has been active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010, he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Ralph A. Beadle

Lubbock

District 15

A graduate of Lubbock’s Monterey High School, Ralph Beadle continued his education at Texas Tech in Lubbock. In 1972 he joined the Lubbock Fire Department and retired as Captain after 23 years of service. He founded Beadle Insurance Agency in Lubbock and has represented Germania for more than 40 years.

Mr. Beadle has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1993 and has been active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010 he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. He also serves on the board of the Germania Purchasing Group which provides errors and omissions coverage for Germania agents.

Robert A. “Tony” Reeves

Midland

District 14

A graduate of Burnet High School, Tony received his bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University. Prior to joining Germania as a claims adjuster in 1990, he was a coach and educator. In 1994, Tony became a marketing representative for the West Texas area and in 1998 became marketing manager for Germania. In 2004, he became the agent for Local Chapter 370 and owner of Reeves Insurance Agency in Midland.

Tony serves on the Board of Directors of the Greentree Country Club in Midland, and also actively supports the Lions Club, the Rotary Club and the local youth fair. He has his LUTCF designation and is a member of the Life Underwriters Association.

He has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 2009 and has actively served on its subsidiary boards and board committees. In 2012, Tony was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

James Bryant Holub

Wichita Falls

District 13

Following graduation from high school, Bryant Holub continued his education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. He has been involved in the insurance industry since 1979 and as an agency partner since 1981 at Holub Insurance Agency/Local Chapter 85.

Bryant has served on the board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1998, and is active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010 he was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

He has been active in his community having served as a Director for the University Kiwanis Club in Wichita Falls.

Don McAfee

Mabank

District 3

A graduate of Mabank High School, Don McAfee continued his education during his career as a multi-line insurance agent. He is co-owner and agent of McAfee Insurance Agency, Inc. in Mabank, where he represents multiple insurance carriers specializing in life, home, commercial and auto.

Mr. McAfee currently serves as chairman of the Henderson County Appraisal District Board of Directors and is a member of the Mabank Economic Development Corporation. He is also involved in numerous other community organizations and activities.

Mr. McAfee has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1999 and has been active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010, he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

C. H. Herring, Jr.

Breckenridge

District 5

C. H. Herring, Jr. formed Germania Local Chapter 298 in Breckenridge in 1977, adding Herring Insurance Agency in 1980 as agent/partner. He continued his education during his years as a multi-line insurance carrier. Prior to his career in insurance, he worked in customer service for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1998.

Mr. Herring has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Breckenridge Kiwanis Club and on the Stephens County Child Welfare Board. He is a current member of the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Herring has served on the board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1994 and has been active on its subsidiary boards and committees. In 2010 he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

Bruce E. Germer

Lockhart

District 12

A graduate of Lockhart High School, Bruce received a BBA in Business with concentration in insurance and real estate from Texas State University. He is owner/agent of Bruce Germer Insurance Agency in Lockhart. As a third generation insurance writer/agent for Local Chapter 125, he has been associated with providing insurance to Germania’s members since 1973.

After 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Bruce retired in 2008. He and his family are members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell where he has served as council president. Bruce has served as coach and director for the Lockhart Little League, chairman for Project Graduation, chairman/treasurer for the Lockhart Athletic Boosters and chairman of the Maxwell Social Club. He has been active with the Lockhart Breakfast Lions, and their meals-on-wheels program. Bruce has served on the Board of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association since 1979 and has actively served on its subsidiary boards and board committees. In 2010, he was recognized by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for completing the Farm Mutual Director Certification program.

Donald Scott Phillips

Denison

District 1

Following graduation from high school, Scott Phillips continued his education at Richland College in Dallas along with several courses with the American College and Life Underwriters Training Council. In 1992, he began working as a partner with Fredda Gibbs Lemons in the Phillips Insurance Agency/Local Chapter 161, purchasing the multi-line independent insurance agency in 2006. Prior to working in the insurance industry, he worked in the food service industry in sales and management for 15 years.

Scott is a member of the Texoma Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and served as president of the association 1998-1999. His civic involvement includes being a member of the Denison Area Chamber of Commerce, working with the Downtown Denison Main Street Association, Denison Animal Welfare Group, as well as the entire city of Denison on several projects and improvements.

Scott was elected to the Germania Farm Mutual Board of Directors in April of 2013, and is active on its subsidiary boards and committees.  In 2016 he obtained his Farm Mutual Director Certification from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.
