Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association, organized in 1896, is a farm mutual insurance company operating under Chapter 911 of the Texas Insurance Code. As a farm mutual, Germania sets its own rates and policy forms. Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association is the parent company and owns the subsidiary Germania Companies. The Cabinet and the directors from all the districts shall constitute the Board of Directors. The Cabinet includes the President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and Secretary–Treasurer. The Association is divided into no more than thirteen districts, and each district has one representative known as a director. Officers and directors are elected for a three–year term.
Germania Insurance Company (GIC), Germania Fire & Casualty Company (GF&C) and Germania Select Insurance Company (GSIC) are wholly–owned subsidiaries of Germania Farm Mutual created to provide members with auto, casualty, boat and property coverage. GIC was organized in 1978 and is a “standard” company. GF&C was organized in 1985, and GSIC was organized in 2002 and are considered “preferred” auto companies. All are stock companies subject to strict state regulation of rates, policy forms, accounting methods and public accountability. A ten-member Board of Directors composed of the four Cabinet officers and six directors elected for a three–year term from the GFM Board of Directors govern these companies.
Germania Life Insurance Company, another wholly–owned subsidiary, was organized in 1983 to provide life insurance products to members and policyholders. Germania Life is also a stock company subject to regulations by the Texas Department of Insurance. The governing body for the Life Company is an eight–member Board of Directors composed of the four Cabinet Officers and four directors elected for a three–year term from the GFM Board of Directors.
Germania Credit Union, organized in 1986, is a non–profit financial corporation owned by its members. Located at Germania‘s corporate office, the credit union offers Germania policyholders, Local Chapter officials and agents, employees and their families a place for systematic savings as well as a convenient and economical source for borrowing money. The Credit Union staff includes a president and four staff members. There are nine members on the Credit Union Board who are elected from the membership for a three-year term.
Germania General Agency (GGA), is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Germania Select Insurance Company (GSIC) and was formed to provide products for Germania Farm Mutual members that Germania Farm Mutual and it’s subsidiary companies do not offer. GGA began in 1980 with the name Bluebonnet General Agency and was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Germania Insurance Company (GIC). In August, 1999 the name was changed to Germania General Agency (GGA). On July 1, 2008 GSIC became the sole-shareholder of GGA.
Texas Heritage Insurance Company was organized in 2006 to offer residential property insurance to policyholders within a seven-county area that includes Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Matagorda, Fort Bend, Harris and Montgomery counties. Texas Heritage is wholly–owned by Germania Farm Mutual and is governed by a seven–member Board of Directors comprised of the four Cabinet Officers and three directors elected for a three–year term from the Germania Farm Mutual Board of Directors. Texas Heritage is currently licensed to operate only in the state of Texas and offers the following products: Basic Dwelling Policy, Basic Dwelling Policy with Replacement Cost, Standard Coverage, Standard Coverage with Replacement Cost and Physical Loss Coverage.
